From our WomenHeart Champions

Welcome! My name is BJ Babcock and I am a WomenHeart Champion and the Pacific Northwest District Support Leader for WomenHeart Support Networks in British Columbia, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Montana. I was born with the diagnosis of congenital aortic stenosis at age 2. As a kid, I felt like I had a strange, exotic disease and all I wanted to be was “normal” like my friends. In the 1950’s and 60’s, I wasn’t allowed to participate in physical education or sports. I had my aortic valve replaced with a mechanical heart valve at St. Jude’s in 1998 and had complications post-surgery. It was a significant recovery period, and I had no one to share my fears and concerns with. I know that we make a huge difference in women’s lives and being part of the WomenHeart family has given me the confidence to reach out to each and every woman that I come into contact with.
