Empowering Women to Advocate for Evidence-Based Heart Care
Heart disease is the leading cause of death for women—yet too often, it is misdiagnosed, undertreated, or dismissed. Women, particularly women of color, experience delayed diagnoses and worse outcomes than men. The lack of awareness among patients and healthcare providers leads to missed opportunities for prevention and life-saving treatment.
WomenHeart is launching Treat Me Right: Improving Heart Care for Women, a groundbreaking initiative to change this reality. This educational and awareness program is designed to equip women with the knowledge and confidence to advocate for timely, evidence-based screening, diagnosis, and care.
WHY THIS MATTERS
Women are at risk
Heart disease remains the #1 killer of women.
Patients must be empowered
True patient-centered care requires women to be active participants in their health journey.
Misdiagnosis is common
Many women receive delayed or incorrect diagnoses, leading to worse outcomes.
Guidelines exist – but awareness is lacking
Evidence-based clinical guidelines can improve care, but many women and healthcare providers are unaware of them.
OUR GOAL
Treat Me Right is a multi-faceted initiative designed to:
Increase awareness of women’s heart disease risks and symptoms.
Educate women on clinical practice guidelines for heart disease diagnosis and treatment.
Improve communication between women and healthcare professionals.
Strengthen advocacy for evidence-based heart care.
Build a coalition of partners committed to improving women’s heart health.
Through these efforts, Treat Me Right aims to contribute to broader change, including improving early detection and equitable access to heart care. While systemic shifts take time, we believe that increasing awareness, fostering better communication, and equipping women with knowledge are critical steps toward reducing missed diagnoses and addressing disparities in heart health
