Treat Me Right

Diagnose Me Right, Treat Me Right

Women have a right to a timely and accurate diagnosis and evidence-based treatment, yet far too often, heart disease in women is misdiagnosed, undertreated or dismissed resulting in worse outcomes for women. Now is the time to change this reality and start listening to and believing women.
WomenHeart’s groundbreaking Treat Me Right education and awareness program is designed to equip women with the knowledge and confidence to advocate for timely, evidence-based screening, diagnosis, and care.

WHY THIS MATTERS

Women are at risk

Shocking Statistics:
  • Heart disease remains the #1 killer of women.
  • Women have a 50% higher chance than men of receiving the wrong initial diagnosis after a heart attack.

Patients must be empowered

True patient-centered care requires women to be active participants in their health journey.

Misdiagnosis is common

Many women receive delayed or incorrect diagnoses, leading to worse outcomes.

Guidelines exist – but awareness is lacking

Evidence-based clinical guidelines can improve care, but many women and healthcare providers are unaware of them.

OUR GOAL

Treat Me Right is a multi-faceted initiative designed to:

Increase awareness of women’s heart disease risks and symptoms.

Educate women on clinical practice guidelines for heart disease diagnosis and treatment.

Improve communication between women and healthcare professionals.

Strengthen advocacy for evidence-based heart care.

Build a coalition of partners committed to improving women’s heart health.

Through these efforts, Treat Me Right aims to contribute to broader change, including improving early detection and equitable access to heart care. While systemic shifts take time, we believe that increasing awareness, fostering better communication, and equipping women with knowledge are critical steps toward reducing missed diagnoses and addressing disparities in heart health
