Gwen Mayes, JD, MMSc is a patient advocate, author, and former physician assistant and attorney. A National Champion for WomenHeart, she lives with a genetic mutation for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and brings lived experience to her work advancing patient-centered care. Following a distinguished career in Washington, DC, she founded GwenCo Health to elevate the patient voice in health policy and care delivery.
Semi-retired, Gwen serves as a patient representative with the American College of Cardiology’s National Cardiovascular Data Registry and the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute, and previously served as EVP of Policy for the National Patient Advocate Foundation. She holds degrees from Transylvania University, Emory University, and the University of Maryland. Her book, More Person Than Patient, will be released in November 2026.
