"Welcome! My name is DeArra Foster from Des Moines, Iowa and I am a WomenHeart Champion and the Upper Midwest District Support Leader for WomenHeart Support Networks in South Dakota, North Dakota, Nebraska, Minnesota, Iowa and Wyoming. I was privileged to be in the first WomenHeart Science and Leadership Symposium at the Mayo Clinic in 2002. It was exactly one year to the day from my double coronary artery bypass graft. I have CAD diagnosed when I was 51.  My goal is to provide knowledgeable, empathetic peer support to help guide the Support Network Leader's (SNL) in my district. The task of being a SNL is a very important one with lots of responsibility to our fellow heart sisters and I want everyone to have all the tools they need to run a successful network. WomenHeart has provided me with friends, knowledge, confidence and more care and love than I could ever express. Thank you to the women of WomenHeart."

"My name is Teresa Harris. I am a WomenHeart Champion and heart disease survivor, with my initial heart event occurring in 2008 at the age of 50.  I am also a recently retired Cardiac RN.  I found WomenHeart after my initial event by seeing it in a magazine, joined online, and our local support group coordinator reached out to me.  I needed the support so much, as I was devastated by my diagnosis, having always been really healthy.  WomenHeart saved me emotionally, and in 2009 I attended the Leadership Symposium at Mayo so that I too could give back to other women heart disease survivors and educate the community about heart disease in women.

I am the District Community Leader for the Upper Midwest District. My role is to collaborate, coordinate and assist all the WomenHeart Champions in this district in the area of community education/advocacy and support.  I primarily work with all of the Upper Midwest Community Educators to provide support and guidance in our volunteerism activities in their communities.  We work together to collaborate on yearly strategic plans and to be the liaison between the district and the WomenHeart National office.

Why do I volunteer as a WomenHeart Champion and DCL?    To educate/advocate and support women with heart disease or at risk of heart disease.  If I can make a difference to just one women, I have done my job.  WomenHeart was there for me when I needed it, and I want to be there for the next women diagnoses with heart disease if they need me."
