Support Networks

Led by trained patient volunteers, WomenHeart’s local support groups meet monthly to provide women living with heart disease critical peer-to-peer support, information and encouragement. Please note, the majority of our support network meetings are conducted in English. Visit the Community Calendar, or contact a WomenHeart Support Network Coordinator for details on the next scheduled meeting.

Other Available Patient Support Services:

  • WomenHeart Virtual Support Networks are monthly online meetings peer-led by WomenHeart Champions. All support meetings are done using web-conferencing - not chat rooms or forums. You can talk in real-time to other women living with heart disease from the comfort and privacy of your own home.
  • SisterMatch connects newly diagnosed women with trained volunteers who provide one-on-one peer support via telephone, email and in-person. Meet your HeartSister today.
  • WomenHeart’s online community, hosted by Inspire, provides a vibrant forum for emotional support and information sharing among women with heart disease and their family members and friends.

From our WomenHeart Champions:

Welcome! My name is BJ Babcock and I am a WomenHeart Champion and the Pacific Northwest District Support Leader for WomenHeart Support Networks in British Columbia, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Montana. I was born with the diagnosis of congenital aortic stenosis at age 2. As a kid, I felt like I had a strange, exotic disease and all I wanted to be was "normal" like my friends. In the 1950's and 60's I wasn't allowed to participate in physical education or sports. I had my aortic valve replaced with a mechanical heart valve at St. Jude's in 1998 and had complications post-surgery. It was a significant recovery period and I had no one to share my fears and concerns with. I know that we make a huge difference in women's lives and being part of the WomenHeart family has given me the confidence to reach out to each and every woman that I come into contact with.
