Are You Ready in Red? It's time for American Heart Month 2014!

February is American Heart Month and WomenHeart encourages all women to take charge of their heart health — today and every day! Here are some of the latest statistics* about women's heart disease:

• 42.9 million women are currently living with some form of cardiovascular disease (CVD). 

• More than 2.6 million women have a history of heart attack. 

• 33.2% of women do not engage in leisure-time physical activity. 

• 60.2% of Caucasian women, 79.9% of African-American women, and 78.2% of Hispanic-American women are overweight or obese. 

• Among Mexican-American women, 30.7% have cardiovascular disease. 

• Among African-American women, 48.9% have cardiovascular disease.

Special Heart Month Events:

The Heart of Style Tour: WomenHeart and Burlington are teaming up again to launch the Heart of Style Tour, a nationwide initiative to support women's heart health education and increase awareness of this chronic and life-threatening disease. The mobile event will travel to select Burlington locations throughout the country from February 1st through March 31st, 2014. Burlington customers can also support WomenHeart by making a donation of $1 or more at checkout, and Burlington will also donate $1 for every red dress sold, up to $25,000. Fresh Produce In-Store EventJoin WomenHeart and women's clothing retailer Fresh Produce for a special celebration of American Heart Month on February 7th at the Mall of Georgia. Renowned cardiologist Nanette Wenger, MD, will give a presentation about the risks for heart disease, early detection and prevention, and there will be an in-store fashion show featuring WomenHeart Champions to kick off Fresh Produce's new red clothing line! Click here for more information.

State of Women's Heart Health Webinar: This special American Heart Month discussion, co-hosted by WomenHeart: The National Coalition for Women with Heart Disease and the American Heart Association, features the nation’s leading experts in cardiovascular care, including DHHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius and Gary Gibbons, MD, Director of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute at the National Institutes of Health.
