Lisa M. Tate meets with DHHS Secretary Burwell

On July 22, 2014, WomenHeart Chief Executive Officer Lisa M. Tate participated in a roundtable discussion with U.S. Department of Health & Human Services Secretary Sylvia Burwell and twelve CEOs of other patient groups. Secretary Burwell, in her first month on the job, invited leaders from carefully selected groups to provide patient feedback on the implementation of the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

Tate suggested to Secretary Burwell that there is a need to improve coverage for cardiac rehabilitation services through the Affordable Care Act. She also emphasized that people who may have insurance, particularly those with chronic illness, could potentially purchase more suitable, affordable coverage through the Affordable Care Act's Health Insurance Exchange Marketplace. An increased emphasis and more targeted messaging to those with chronic illness during the Health Insurance Exchange Marketplace enrollment period could benefit many women living with heart disease.
