WomenHeart is pleased to announce that 23 women living with heart disease have graduated from the 2013 WomenHeart Science & Leadership Symposium at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota to become WomenHeart Champions. The 2013 WomenHeart Champions join 628 inspirational women from around the country honored with the WomenHeart Champion title to become the "boots on the ground” in the fight against heart disease by becoming patient advocates and WomenHeart Support Network leaders. Their work will empower women nationwide to take charge of their heart health and save lives!
The 23 new WomenHeart Champions have returned to their communities to host a WomenHeart Support Network and hold monthly Support Network meetings for other women living with heart disease. 15 WomenHeart Champions will host their Support Network at a National Hospital Alliance member hospital.
WomenHeart Champions lead the only national community based, patient led network of support groups for women living with heart disease. They are currently conducting community outreach and education in 49 states and running 121 Support Networks in 37 states. The 2013 WomenHeart Champions will significantly expand WomenHeart’s presence and enhance its community outreach and education efforts by establishing Support Networks in Oregon, California, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Mississippi, Michigan, Kentucky, Ohio, New York, Georgia and Florida. Many of the women are connected to hospitals that are members of WomenHeart’s National Hospital Alliance – hospitals that have partnered with WomenHeart to advance women’s heart health.
