The last 16 years have been a life-changing journey for Cathy. She has had two heart attacks and ventricular tachycardia, in addition to other health concerns.
But that hasn't stopped her and other WomenHeart Champions in her district from delivering more than 7,000 HeartScarves to women heart patients.
In 2004, Cathy and other heart disease survivors were guests at the White House launch for American Heart Month. Laura Bush mentioned Cathy’s heart story in her remarks about women and heart disease.
Cathy facilitates support groups and community education events. Just last month, Cathy and her co-leader, Janis Eason Moore, organized "A Day of Women's Heart Health" at Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, Kansas. The seven-hour continuing education program featured presentations from six cardiologists on topics ranging from healthcare disparity to women and heart failure to rhythm disorders.
We are delighted to honor and thank Cathy as our WomenHeart Champion of the Month. Cathy, and hundreds of WomenHeart volunteers like her, help us reach women with lifesaving information and caring support.
