WomenHeart launches first national afib-stroke educational initiative for Hispanic women

A new national initiative about atrial fibrillation and stroke risk for Hispanic women launched on Tuesday, May 14th in Washington, DC, featuring the story of afib patient Consuelo "Connie" Cordova and the release of Spanish language educational materials to be made available nationally on www.womenheart.org and WomenHeartTV on YouTube.

Medtronic Seeking Long-Distance Runners Who Benefit from Medical Technology

Applications for the eighth annual Medtronic Global Heroes program will be accepted through April 26, 2013. The program honors up to 25 runners from around the world who benefit from medical technology; to qualify as a Global Hero, runners must currently be using a medical device therapy to treat the following disease categories: heart disease, diabetes, chronic pain, spinal disorders, or neurological, gastroenterology and urological disorders. All runners with eligible devices are welcome to apply with no restriction on manufacturer. In seven years, 159 runners representing 23 different countries have been honored. Honorees receive two paid entries into the 2013 Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon or the Medtronic TC 10 Mile and a travel package that includes airfare, lodging and meal expenses for the Global Hero and one guest.

WomenHeart Launches American Heart Month with National Outreach to Hispanic-American Women

WomenHeart: The National Coalition for Women with Heart Disease celebrates American Heart Month today by announcing the launch of Para la Mujer Hispana – the first national heart health education initiative for Spanish speaking women. The program – made possible through a cause-marketing partnership with the national off-price retailer, Burlington Coat Factory – is designed to empower this high risk population to take charge of their heart health.
