The First and Only Cholesterol-Lowering Chips, Corazonas Develops National 28-Day Cholesterol Challenge and Donates Ten Cents Per Bag To WomenHeart During February
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Los Angeles (January 28, 2009) – In advance of American Heart Month in February, Corazonas Foods Inc. (www.corazonas.com), creators of great-tasting, heart-healthy snack foods, is partnering with WomenHeart (www.WomenHeart.org), the nation’s only organization solely dedicated to promoting women’s heart health through advocacy, community education and patient support. As part of this partnership, Corazonas will donate $0.10 – and up to $25,000 – to WomenHeart for each bag of Corazonas Heart-Healthy Potato and Tortilla Chips purchased during the month of February.
“With nearly 50 percent of women in America suffering from borderline to high cholesterol, keeping cholesterol numbers at a healthful level is a key component to reducing the risk of contracting heart disease” said Lisa M. Tate, WomenHeart’s chief executive officer. “We are excited to partner with Corazonas Foods, a company committed to lowering cholesterol and fighting heart disease through heart-healthy foods that are also delicious. Together, we can continue to educate and inspire women to take control of their own and their family’s heart health.”
To entice people to lower their cholesterol, Corazonas has developed the 28-Day Cholesterol Challenge. Americans are encouraged to “chip away” at their cholesterol by eating a one-ounce serving of Corazonas Chips two times per day with meals for 28 consecutive days. Within 10 days after taking the 28-day challenge, if one’s LDL cholesterol isn’t lowered, then Corazonas will pay for the chips. Visit www.corazonas.com for full details, rules and restrictions.
Recognized by O: The Oprah Magazine, Prevention, Health andseen on“Good Morning America,” Corazonas Heart-Healthy Tortilla and Potato Chips are the first and only snack chips clinically proven to help reduce low density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, a.k.a. “bad cholesterol,” by up to 15 percent, thanks to the company’s patented technology of infusing the chips with plant sterols during the cooking process. Besides plant sterols, the chips have added heart-healthy benefits. Corazonas Heart-Healthy Potato Chips contain 40 percent less fat than regular potato chips; Corazonas Whole Grain Tortilla Chips have 18 grams of whole grains; and, both the Corazonas Whole Grain and Whole Oat Tortilla Chips have three grams of fiber per serving.
“All of us at Corazonas have been personally affected by heart disease. In my case, my own father and both grandfathers died from complications of heart disease,” says Ramona Cappello, co-founder and chief executive officer of Corazonas Foods. “By forming a partnership with WomenHeart, as well as developing the Cholesterol Challenge, we strive to not only make heart-healthy snack foods, but to inform and educate women and their families about practical, easy, and delicious ways to lead a heart-healthy lifestyle.”
