Grilled Beef and Bean Burgers

Makes 5 servings
Ingredients:
½ pound extra-lean ground beef
1 can (15 to 16 ounces) great northern beans, rinsed and drained
¼ cup finely crushed saltine crackers (about 7 squares)
2 tablespoons barbecue sauce
¼ teaspoon pepper
1 egg
5 teaspoons barbecue sauce
5 whole-grain hamburger buns, split Leaf lettuce, sliced tomatoes and sliced onions, if desired
Directions:
1. Brush grill rack with canola or soybean oil. Heat coals or gas grill for direct heat.
2. Mix beef, beans, cracker crumbs, 2 tablespoons barbecue sauce, the pepper and egg in large bowl. Shape mixture into 5 patties, about 1/2 inch thick.
3. Cover and grill patties 4 to 6 inches from medium heat 5 minutes. Turn patties; spread each patty with 1 teaspoon barbecue sauce. Grill until meat thermometer inserted in center of patties reads 160°, about 6 to 8 minutes longer.
4. Fill buns with lettuce, patties, tomatoes and onions.
