WomenHeart: the National Coalition for Women with Heart Disease presented its six annual Wenger Awards for excellence today in Washington, DC. The awards recognize individuals and organizations that have demonstrated a commitment to and significant achievement in efforts to reduce heart disease in women. The 2007 winners are:
Advocacy: Kathy Kastan and the WomenHeart Board of Directors
Communications: Tina Bradford, Support Network Coordinator of WomenHeart of Mississippi and 2005 Graduate of the Science and Leadership Symposium at Mayo Clinic
Community Education: Elena Alvarado, Executive Director, National Latina Health Network
Corporate Leadership: Jill Dolgin, Business & Advocacy Development Manager, GlaxoSmithKline
Healthcare: Dalene Bott-Kittslaar, Mayo Clinic, Women’s Heart Clinic
Public Policy: Dr. Richard Keller, Coroner for Lake Country, IL
Inaugurated in 2000, the awards are named in honor of Dr. Nanette Kass Wenger, M.D., Professor of Medicine at Emory University School of Medicine and chief of cardiology at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, GA. She is a long-time advocate for increased research and better treatment of women with heart disease. |
