Chicago Conference Celebrates Cardiac Survivors and their Families
Over 150 women heart patients and their family members attended WomenHeart's second National Conference in Chicago on July 14 - 16. They heard lectures about new cardiac diagnostic tests and medical technologies, and complimentary care and psycho/social aspects of living with heart disease. Speakers included Sharonne Hayes, MD, of Mayo Clinic; Jennifer Mieres, MD, of NYU Medical School; Roberta Bogaev, MD, of Texas Transplant Institute; Wayne Sotile, PhD, of Wake Forest University; Ann Taubenheim, PhD, of NHLBI; and Mimi Guarneri, MD, of Scripps Center for Integrative Medicine.
Workshop topics included care giving (for husbands), helping our children cope, heart-healthy eating, yoga, Pilates, women-friendly cardiac care, living with diabetes, and partnering with your doctor. The conference celebrated surviving and thriving with heart disease, and concluded with a lively Talent Show.
